Trauma-Focused counseling is a specific approach to therapy that recognizes and emphasizes an understanding of how the traumatic experience impacts an individual's mental, behavioral, emotional, physical, and spiritual well-being. The purpose of trauma-focused therapy is to offer skills and strategies to assist in understanding, processing, and coping with emotions and memories tied to traumatic experiences, with the end goal of enabling the individual to create a healthier and more adaptive meaning of the experience that took place in his/her life.
If you or someone you know is experiencing a crisis or trauma, please contact us to schedule an appointment. You do not have to walk this journey alone.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) enables people to heal from emotional distress and symptoms of disturbing life experiences. Repeated studies show that by using EMDR therapy people can experience the benefits of counseling that once took years to make a difference. EMDR therapy shows that the mind can in fact heal from psychological trauma just as the body recovers from physical trauma. When you cut your hand, your body works to close the wound. If a foreign object or repeated injury irritates the wound, it festers and causes pain. Once the block is removed, healing resumes. EMDR therapy demonstrates that a similar sequence of events occurs with mental processes. Using the detailed protocols and procedures learned in EMDR therapy training sessions, clinicians help clients activate their natural healing processes.
A crisis refers not just to a traumatic event or experience, but to an individual's response to the situation. The events that trigger this crisis can run the gamut from developmental hurdles (such as going through puberty) to natural disasters or the death of a loved one. Crisis counseling is focused on minimizing the stress of the event, providing emotional support, and improving the individual’s coping strategies in the here and now.
Exposure to traumatic events can damage mental, spiritual, and physical health. When a traumatic experience leads to severe psychological distress that impacts daily functioning, trauma focused counseling may be more appropriate.

Our spirit and soul are the most important parts of who we are, and yet we rarely spend time developing our inner life and personal relationship with God.
Spiritual Formation is a process, but it is also a journey through which we open our hearts to a deeper connection with God. It is a process of forming or growing the spiritual self and gaining an understanding of who we are in Christ.
